InnerSelf Newsletter: February 8th, 2015

February 8th, 2015

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your Inner Self.

Just because something has "always" been done a certain way doesn't mean that it is necessarily the best way. Some things can be improved and others need to be changed outright. This week we look at Breaking Away From Repetitive & Ingrained Patterns, at How to Get Out of a Coma & Be the Director of Your Life, and at Self-Mastery.

We also reflect that sometimes the best solution is a maybe... maybe we could do it this way, maybe this would work out better, Maybe There's Another Way. Being open to maybe and to breaking out of repetitive patterns is the openness that is needed in creating a better world for ourselves and our planetary family. M.J. Ryan sums it up well in How to Live Happily-Ever-After on a Day-to-Day Basis.

The movie "American Sniper" has sparked a lot of debate and we share with you an insightful and reflective article: Understanding Objections To The Movie American Sniper. Our goal through it all is to assist you in The Healing Journey of Infinite Wisdom and Love.

Scroll below for the "Editor's Choice" articles of the week, and some additional articles. Go over to the home page of InnerSelf directly for a lot more reading material (and videos).

We also welcome (and invite) any feedback about the new site... what you like, what you don't like, and very importantly, if something isn't working or is missing, etc. To send us your comments, hover over the "This and That" item in every page's top menu, and click on the "Contact Us" button.

Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

Breaking Away From Repetitive & Ingrained Patterns

Breaking Through Repetitive & Ingrained PatternsWritten by Nick Seneca Jankel.

A simple way of defining a pattern is a predictable response to a specific type of situation. The most obvious patterns are those that pop out when we are tired, feel attacked, in the middle of a conflict, a little ill, or overwhelmed. This is because we have less energy and attention to keep them locked down.

How to Get Out of a Coma & Be the Director of Your Life

How to Get Out of a Coma & Be the Director of Your Own LifeWritten by Alan Cohen.

In the Book of Genesis we are told that “a deep sleep fell over Adam,” but nowhere in the Bible does it say that he woke up. We are all Adam, still immersed in the dream of limitation. We have become sleepwalkers, trudging through our days wondering who we are and why we are here.

A Gift For Our Children’s Future: Maybe There's Another Way

A Gift For Our Children’s Future: Maybe There's Another WayWritten by Allison Carmen.

I can remember like yesterday sitting at the dinner table as a child with my parents and siblings and feeling like the world was going to end. My parents would openly discuss current events. I thought to myself what will be in this world? How will I be safe? What can the future look like when these terrible things are happening all the time?

Understanding Objections To The Movie American Sniper

Understanding Objections To The Movie American SniperWritten by Brock McIntosh, Waging NonViolence.

After watching the movie “American Sniper,” I called a friend named Garett Reppenhagen who was an American sniper in Iraq. He deployed with a cavalry scout unit from 2004 to 2005 and was stationed near FOB Warhorse.

The Healing Journey of Infinite Wisdom and Love

The Healing Power of Infinite Wisdom and LoveWritten by Pooja Chugani.

I always had a feeling inside that there was something more to life. In a sense I had a great life—two wonderful kids, a husband, a successful business, a house—but even with all the trappings of what one might call “success” I found that life felt empty and meaningless. Often I would ask God, “What am I doing here? What is the point of all of this?”

How to Live Happily-Ever-After on a Day-to-Day Basis

How to Live Happily-Ever-After on a Day-to-Day BasisWritten by M.J. Ryan.

I once read a quote by Hugh Downs that said, “A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.” We only have to compare two people in the exact same circumstances—one happy, one not—to know just how true...

Self-Mastery: The Noblest Victor Is He Who Has Conquered Himself

Self-Mastery: The Noblest Victor Is He Who Has Conquered HimselfWritten by Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett.

Every religious discipline teaches it. Every culture values it. Self-control or self-mastery is a key to power. "Though one should conquer a million men on the battlefield, yet he, indeed, is the noblest victor who has conquered himself."

February 2015: Wiping the Slate Clean

February 2015: Wiping the Slate CleanWritten by Sarah Varcas.

February looks set to be one of the most powerful months of the year. The change demanded by the burgeoning Aquarian Age blows apart preconceptions and prejudices, challenges long held notions of right and wrong and upholds Truth with a capital ‘T’ in the face of half truths, deceptions and lies so cosy and familiar we barely know they’re there...

It is also highly beneficial to reread the past week's astrological journal as it gives a 20/20 view of the events that took place and may provide many "ah-ha" insights.
